YORKVILLE 1969 MEL BORINS
The sideshow on the street,
Is full of crowds of freaks,
Jugglers and acrobats.
Hippies wearing cowboy hats,
Everywhere is laughter,
Everywhere is music,
Peace signs everywhere
Flowers in the hair (2)
First act on the stage,
Is long-haired clowns
With painted skin of dirt and hair.
With beards and beads,
And bare-foot shoes,
They walk with their head held high
They dance and glide
Next on center stage
Turn on
High flying acts
They soar up high
Taking trips on thin lines
They have no nets to break their falls.
Grab a seat at a small café
Watch the hippies come your way
Love and friendship everywhere
Hope is in the air
Flowers in their hair
Hope is everywhere
Bongo drums and protest songs
Where have all the flowers gone
Love the other like yourself
Peace and harmony
Everywhere was a song and a celebration
Free love was in the air
Hope was everywhere
We’ve got to get back to the garden.
